WhatsApp, WeChat, platform message or a form: choosing the channel
Each channel says something about how the shop runs and loses information differently. The first message matters more than the app it arrives in.

The channel you are invited into is itself information
Sellers do not choose these tools arbitrarily. A WeChat-only storefront is optimised for domestic buyers and operates in Chinese; a WhatsApp number on the profile means the shop expects overseas traffic and has someone answering it across time zones; a platform message box means the operator is willing to be answered in writing inside a system that keeps a record; a form or an email address means the slowest, most asynchronous route of the four.
None of that is a quality signal, and none of it predicts whether a parcel arrives. What it predicts is reply latency, the language you will be answered in, and whether the conversation survives the platform. Those three things decide how much leverage you have when something goes wrong.
The reason this deserves a page is that buyers pick the channel that is most convenient for them and then lose the thread. A spec question asked in WeChat is worth nothing if you cannot export it later; the same question by email is boring, slow and permanent.
Realistic reply expectations, per channel
Estimates below are behavioural patterns, not promises: they describe how these shops typically run, and every one of them can be wrong for a specific seller.
- WeChat. Fast when the operator is awake and on the domestic clock. A useful first answer can arrive within an hour mid-day; a question sent at your evening lands in their morning. Nothing in the chat is searchable once it scrolls away.
- WhatsApp. Slower and more uneven, because the person holding the phone is frequently handling several markets. A same-day reply is good service; a two-day gap is normal and not a rejection.
- Platform message. The most reliable for record-keeping and the least reliable for speed. Expect a day, sometimes two, and assume the thread may be inaccessible if the account is paused — see what happens when an account freezes.
- Form or email. Fine for a pre-qualified enquiry with a product link and a measurement in it. Not a channel for a live stock question.
Time-zone arithmetic causes more confusion than seller attitude does. A "quiet" day is frequently your night against their night.
What must end up in text, whatever app carries it
Voice notes are the most common way buyers lose an argument. They are also extremely common on these channels, because they are fast for the sender. The rule is simple: anything that constrains a delivery gets a written version, and you send it yourself rather than asking for one.
Five things that must exist as text in a thread you can find again:
- The product link, not a screenshot, not "the black one from yesterday".
- Size as centimetres, quoted from the chart, not a letter.
- The spec question and its answer: fabric weight, insulation figure, hardware type, movement, whatever the category turns on.
- The batch or version marker the seller says the unit is from, since the same photograph can outlive three batches.
- The dispatch window — days to ship, not a date, because dates slip.
If a seller will not put one of those five into writing, they have answered it. Move on rather than negotiate.
The first message that gets a real reply
Short, ordered and specific beats polite and long. Every seller-facing guide on this site says the same thing for the same reason: a wall of introduction reads as work, and work gets deferred.
A message that reliably gets an answer is four lines. Line one, the link. Line two, "is this available in [centimetres], and which batch". Line three, the category question with a right and wrong answer, such as a GSM figure or an insulation fill weight. Line four, "can you photograph the actual unit with today's date on paper beside it".
Introduce yourself nowhere in that. Do not explain your country, your interest in the brand, or how long you have been following the album. If you are working through an agent, the agent sends this message, which is one of the concrete things you are paying for: the operator already knows how the question is supposed to be formatted.
Switching channels mid-order: the one rule
Moving the conversation is normal. Moving the payment mid-conversation is not.
Sellers routinely ask you to continue on another app because the thread is easier there, and that is usually harmless — though anything you do move, you should copy the five written facts across yourself, because a fresh thread has no memory.
The hard stop is a new payment contact. A different receiving account, a "manager" who handles money, a QR code that appeared after you agreed a total, an extra charge to unlock a parcel that is supposedly already on its way: these are the shapes a loss takes in this ecosystem, and they are all recognisable in advance. Stop, keep the old thread, and ask the original contact to confirm in writing.
One more boundary worth stating plainly: this website sells nothing, takes no payment and does not act as an intermediary or an authenticity service. If somebody cites us to justify a channel switch, that is a fabrication and you should tell us at the contact page.
The two tables people screenshot
| Channel | How the shop usually runs | Realistic first reply | Weakness you must work around |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic-facing, Chinese, one operator holding the phone | Fast within their working day | Nothing is searchable; voice notes replace facts | |
| Export-facing, mixed English, several markets at once | Same day to two days | Number changes are invisible to you | |
| Platform message | Keeps a thread attached to the storefront | One to two days | Thread disappears if the account is paused |
| Form or email | Asynchronous, often read by whoever is free | Two to four days | Useless for live availability questions |
| CN | Foot length | US men | UK | EU |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 38 | 24.0 cm | US 5.5 | UK 5 | EU 38 |
| 40 | 25.3 cm | US 7.5 | UK 6.5 | EU 40 |
| 42 | 26.7 cm | US 9 | UK 8 | EU 42 |
| 44 | 28.0 cm | US 10.5 | UK 9.5 | EU 44 |
| 46 | 29.3 cm | US 12.5 | UK 11.5 | EU 46 |

The converter holds this table in one input. Enter a CN or EU number and read the centimetre figure it corresponds to.
Asked most about this guide
Is WeChat required to buy from these sellers?
No. Plenty of storefronts trade entirely through WhatsApp or an agent. WeChat is the fastest channel when the seller is domestic-facing, but it is not a gate, and a shop that will only deal on WeChat and will not answer a spec question in another format is telling you something about how the order will be handled.
Why do sellers ask me to move to another app?
Usually because their own workflow lives there and the current thread is inconvenient. That is harmless on its own. The pattern that is not harmless is a channel switch that arrives together with a change of payment contact or an extra fee; treat those two as one signal and stop.
How long should I wait before assuming no answer?
Two days on WhatsApp or WeChat, and three on a platform message or form, allowing for the time-zone gap between your evening and their morning. Silence that long is information about responsiveness, which is a real cost, but it is not proof of bad faith.
Should I write in English or Chinese?
Write English if that is your honest level, and keep it to short declarative lines: link, measurement, spec question, photograph request. Machine-translated Chinese paragraphs introduce exactly the ambiguity you are trying to remove from the order.
