Agent or direct: three ways to buy from Yupoo and what each costs you

There is more than one way to get a parcel out of China, and the right one depends on order size, patience and how much risk you want to carry yourself.

Full-service agent

The agent buys, receives, photographs, stores and ships. You get QC photos and consolidation. You pay a handling fee and often a service fee on top of freight, and you accept a two-to-three week total timeline.

Direct with the seller shipping

Some albums ship internationally themselves. It is one step cheaper and one step less protected: no independent QC photos, no consolidation with your other orders, and the seller's choice of line rather than yours.

A middleman in a community

A community middleman aggregates orders from many buyers into one parcel. Cheaper per item, but the chain of trust is longer and there is no warehouse in the middle producing photographs of your item.

Choosing between them

First order: agent. You are paying for the QC photos and the fact that a mistake is someone else's problem to solve. Repeat, small, single-seller order: direct is fine. Large multi-seller order with time: agent consolidation wins on freight.

Pick in one question

Is it your first order?

Use an agent. You are buying photographs of the parcel as much as the parcel.

Is it one item from one seller?

Direct shipping is fine if the seller offers a line you can track.

Is it a big group order?

A middleman can be cheapest, but you inherit their risk.

Questions

Asked most about this guide

Is an agent legal?

An agent is a purchasing and shipping service. The legal exposure sits on what is imported and how it is declared, which is why honest declarations and realistic expectations about branded goods matter.

Can I use two routes at once?

Yes. Most experienced buyers use an agent for multi-album orders and direct shipping when a seller offers a line they trust.
